New Groomer For Fumee Trails PDF Print E-mail

groomerQUINNESEC — Members of the Fumee Lake Commission and local ski enthusiasts are celebrating the arrival of a new cross country ski groomer.

For the past several months, the Fumee Lake Commission has been receiving donations from individuals and businesses to make the purchase.

“We are very thankful for the response of people in our community for their help with this project,” said Bob Roberge, Fumee Lake Commission member. “The new groomer is a quality piece of equipment that will enhance recreational opportunities for everyone at the Fumee Lake Natural Area.”


The “Ginzugroomer” is manufactured by Yellowstone Track Systems of West Yellowstone, Mont.

Grooming equipment formerly used on Fumee trails was extremely heavy and bulky. The new groomer is lighter and can be used with less snow and will provide a quality track that also allows for ski skating, the Fumee Lake Commission said in a news release.

“We will continue to partner with the Tri-County Snowmobile Club for trail grooming,” said Roberge.

Acquisition of the equipment, which carried a base cost of $7,200, initially drew some controversy when the commission moved to purchase it with Fumee Lake Trust Fund monies. The commission then decided to purchase the equipment entirely through fund-raising and private donations.
