PHOTO ID REQUIREMENT:
Due to a recent Michigan Supreme Court ruling regarding a Michigan law passed in 1996, ALL voters are now required to show photo identification at the polls. This requirement was effective with the November 2007 election. Voters must comply with the requirements by showing photo identification or sign an affidavit attesting that they are not in possession of picture identification. A ballot cannot be issued to a voter unless they display picture identification or sign the affidavit. (MCL 168.523)
Voters can satisfy the photo ID requirement by showing a Michigan driver's license or a Michigan personal identification card.
Voters who do not possess either document may show any of the following forms of photo ID as long as they are current:
- Driver's license or personal identification card issued by another state.
- Federal or state government-issued photo identification.
- U.S. passport
- Military identification card with photo.
- Student identification with photo - from a high school or an accredited institution of higher education.
- Tribal identification card with photo.
