Planning/Building/Zoning

The Planning and Zoning department of Breitung Township is responsible for the following:

• The administration and enforcement of the Township's Zoning Ordinance
• The enforcement of other ordinances
• To provide information to township residents and the general public regarding regulations affecting the use and development of land in Breitung Township
• Provide support to the Planning Commission and the Zoning Board of Appeals

A Zoning Application is needed for all building projects and change in land use in the Township or change in Commercial ownership.  There is a $20.00 fee.

Fence permits are needed for all new fences built in the township.  View the Fence Regulations here.  There is a $20.00 fee.

A Petition for Variance may be requested by the property owner for a dimensional deduction in setbacks, lot sizes, building height, and other structural components of the Zoning Ordinance.  There is a $150.00 fee.

A Conditional Use Permit may be applied for by the property owner to establish uses with limitations as set forth by the Township Planning Commission.  There is a $150.00 fee.

Residential properties may apply for a Conditional Use Permit - Home Occupation Permit Application for small commercial uses in the principle structure of the property.  There is a $150.00 fee.
