The Planning and Zoning department of Breitung Township is responsible for the following:

  • The administration and enforcement of the Township Zoning Ordinance.
  • The enforcement of other ordinances
  • To provide information to township residents and the general public regarding regulations affecting the use and development of land in Breitung Township
  • Provide support to the Planning Commission and the Zoning Board of Appeals

Zoning Permit is needed for all building projects and change in land use in the Township or change in Commercial ownership.  There is a $20.00 fee.

Procedures for Applying and Securing a Building Permit can be viewed here. 

Fence permits are needed for all new fences built in the township.  There is a $20.00 fee.

Petition for a Variance may be requested by the property owner for a dimensional deduction in setbacks, lot sizes, building height, and other structural components of the Zoning Ordinance.  There is a $150.00 fee.

Conditional Use Permit may be applied for by the property owner to establish uses with limitations as set forth by the Township Planning Commission.  There is a $150.00 fee.

Residential properties may apply for a Conditional Use - Home Occupation Permit for small commercial uses in the principle structure of the property.  There is a $150.00 fee.
