Refuse Fee
The rational for the refuse fee was decided in 2008 when the contract with Great American Disposal (GAD) increased by approximately $4,000 per month. Prior to that time, the refuse costs collection and disposal were paid for by the operating millage of the Township. With the increase, it was decided that the users for the service should be responsible for part of the costs and the refuse fee was created. The Township Board passed an ordinance that requires all residential structures including duplexes and apartment buildings would be charged for the service.
The monthly charge is approximately half of the actual cost with the General Fund or millage paying the other half, which amounts to $150,000 per year.
If this refuse fee is not paid, it could result in a penalty being assessed to this bill. Also if not paid, it will be placed on the next available tax billing as a tax lien.
